How much space does archiving a file save?
Q. I Don't understand why a 7 gb 720p movie is uploaded on a torrent archived.Does it save so much space? is it usefull or not
Asked by lil_mosquito - Thu Sep 30 17:05:11 2010 - - 1 Answers - 3 Comments

A. That's probably a scam if it's 720p material in a SINGLE archive file. If it's in a lot of archive files - that's just for people with low quality internet connections, meaning, if they download the actual .mkv file and something is wrong - they'd have to download the WHOLE thing again. But with a bunch of archives - they just download the ONE archive that got bad in the transmission. As for your question - archiving files and compressing them in the process can save A LOT of space, but only if the things you're archiving aren't already "drive space-optimized", like mp3 files, jpeg files, avi files etc. And you can't really calculate a global compression ratio, it all depends on the file (or files) you're compressing.

A. No,if archiving is not enabled there is now way they can see you'r message's,unless they have placed a keylogger on your puter. You need too disable remote services on your puter, that avoids that too.

A. yes it is possible. use this software: (it is a easy-to-use software but if you have troubles, just ask me). Using the cache of your browser (as explained above) is dangerous because you can accidentally delete it and because you have to manually visit each page.

It is an all-in-one, browser-based software and is easy to use. I hope it will fulfill all of your requirements. I have used it for my recent project where I have to share a lot of files with my collaborators. It makes my work easier by allowing me to add links in my files. A. Go 'virtual' - store the DNA sequences, not the material, on DVD's and then turn the Computers off :-) NB. Whilst you are p*ssing about with Polictially Correct timewasters such as 'Carbon Footprints' the Chinese are leaping ahead at 10x the speed and will soon end up 'owning' all advanced research (just like they currently own our Industrial base)

How email archiving should be implemented in an organization?
Q. How email archiving should be implemented in an organization?
Asked by Shravya - Thu Oct 2 10:40:20 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. For security, maintenance and resource reasons, email archives should not be archived on the mail server but should have their own localized server that is specific to the task. Having your emails archived on a separate database ensures more protection for the archives should the server crash, as well as lightening the load on the server. When archiving is another process that the email server is meant to handle, its resources are being stretched to capacity risking poor performance in both tasks. A dedicated email server and a dedicated archiving server render the upkeep of both machines a simpler and cleaner process. Moreover, separate backups of both servers ensure a safer environment, as by having the archived emails on a separate… [cont.]

A. The best method to archive is to use a database. Some archivers like GFI can convert e-mail to SQL. This gives you a programmable control. I'm not a big fan of proprietory archive formats. GFI Mail Archiver has a free trial version: You could try Athena Archiver. It is a bit on the expensive side, though.

Q. How will you test, verify, calibrate a time machine to work properly?

A. Time machines are entirely the creation of science fiction, and they are impossible to create since time has no physical dimension within which one can 'travel'. So, there's no point in discussing how test, verify, or calibrate one.

What is a program/software to use for website archiving screenshots?
Q. I need to take screenshots of different web pages to verify ad placements. Ideally I would like to automate this process as the screenshots will be used for archiving and/or reference points. I was hoping there was a program which would allow me to specify the URLs once and would then automatically "run" by taking the screenshot of the designated URL and saving to a specified location. Any ideas on a free program/software that does this?

However, if these are just left in the boxes they will deteriorate, and in time just get chucked which would be a real shame. How can these documents best be archived so they can be used in the future? They need to be sorted - but how? and how to preserve them? is cross-referencing worth it? Any ideas or help would be received gratefully

A. I went through that also, only my mom was not here to help so first try to find out who all the people are and put their names and places on the back of the photos, (it's a good practice to get into for your self by the way). If she don't know ask relatives who might know. The same for all papers, wills, births,School items and so on even phone and water bills some time help a great deal. Then all photos can be put into archival folders, albums, and such to preserve them. I also scan my and save on to a CD. I scan copies of census, death records and such also. So I can preserve the originals. Then I would get a genealogy program for your computer and put all that you can into it. I have two one is my family origins and Family Tree maker they… [cont.]
