What if your parents or grandparents were struck by lightning before your birth?
Q. Lets say one of your ancestors, parents, grand parents, great grandparents, were struck by lightning and survived. Do you think it's possible that something changes that affects their off spring. Lets say I was struck by lightning, survived, and had a child. Would that affect them in anyway, shape, or form?

A. My younger brother was struck by a glancing lightning bolt, and he was knocked down and nearly passed-out. A week after the lighting strike, sores on his legs appeared from the reaction to the lightning temperature. The sores healed, and he had no more reaction to the lightning. He fathered three children, all of whom are normal, so it appears people can endure after being struck with lightning. Harrald

How do I convince my parents to let me into the acting business?
Q. I am very experienced in acting, singing, and dancing. Just at my local theatre that works with people on broadway. But I want to go further. I want to convince my parents to let me get an agent, auditon for shows and movies (mainly I want to try Disney), and more like that. But there are problems. Like pricing, no we're not poor, I don't know what you consider rich, but either way my parents don't want to spend the money. Another is location, I live in L.A. but I've heard of auditions in lie, chicago, which my parents would never allow. Also, school work, how would I be able to do it, Im only 14 after all. But I'd give anything to have that. It's my dream, and I've heard from many well experienced people (broadway stars and such) that i… [cont.]

A. Two things to keep in mind: One, for your parents, it's probably less about money and more about you. They want you to have a childhood, a prom, a graduation. And you can't go back at twenty-five, when you've missed out on all of that, and do it over. Two: I can name on one hand the number of child-stars who are still actors/actresse s in adulthood. They get type-cast in early roles, and never get to play anything else. Look at Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter). He's gone so far as to go naked for a seen in Equus, his play in London. Unfortunately, everyone goes to see him naked, not because he's a great actor. He'll always be Harry Potter. Fourteen is a great age to be... when you're fourteen. Unfortunately, to be typecast as a fourteen-year [cont.]

A. First off, your parents don't need to be strict, just to encourage you and push you forward like that. You should also push yourself forward. also get some sleep and go to be around 8-10 at the latest. Lastly, stay the fuck off of yahoo answers, this junk lowers your IQ faster than any amount of Mary Jane.

How can I convince my parents to let me hang out with friends?
Q. My parents won't allow me to go anywhere with my friends. I've calmly asked my mother why, but her reason is that 'children of my age shouldn't be unsupervised'. I'm constantly left behind while my friends go to the mall, movies, etc. My parents won't even let me visit their house even though their parents are there. Am I just going to have to wait until I move out to have a life that doesn't /always/ involve my parents?
Asked by Kak M - Sat Dec 19 17:56:08 2009 - Family - 3 Answers - Comments

A. Maybe you should ask if you should invite your friends back to your place under a supervised visit.Have you not been trusted with your friends? Some parents just care about their kids and cannot let go.A lot depends on your age. It is possible that they do no trust your friends. Under 15 that is when you do more supervision From 15 onwards parents need to let go. How it works for me that mine has to home by a suitable time and not hang around by herself. She has to call if she misses the bus.

How do parents check their kids email or Facebook accounts?
Q. Well so I'm kind of worried that my parents might be checking my email or Facebook accounts in the future because they heard that most parents from my school are doing that to their kids. I'm thirteen now. I'm just wondering how are they able to check the accounts if the kids have signed out and the parents don't have the passwords? Can they hack in using the computer history?

How do parents who are not teachers home school their kids?
Q. Especially in high school when 2 year of a foreign language are required, computer classes, driver's ed, PE, trig or higher level math the parent might not be a pro at or chemistry, geology, etc. In high school each teacher has years of experience in each subject area they specialize in. How do parents pull off teaching all the different topics themselves? Well I am referring to high school age per my question details, so ages 14-18 (or 12-18 roughly if I include junior high). For example my favorite class in high school (public) was English where we studied the Greek plays, reinacted them and the teacher who was very well educated in the field was just so amazing, I could never in a million years imagine getting what I got out of that… [cont.]

A. First of all, just because a parent doesn't have a teaching degree, doesn't mean he/she isn't well- educated. Many homeschooling parents, such as myself, have years of college under their belts. I have a BS in biochemistry, and medical lab technician certification. To get these, I had to do lots of chemistry, physics, calculus (including multi-variable) , science, biology, art, English, and a foreign language, among others. Not to mention, I have a genius IQ. So what makes a teacher? I expect that they have to spend a few years learning how to handle kids in the public school system. They learn things like watching for signs of abuse, how to handle a violent kid, how to "lock-down" a classroom, how to protect themselves from… [cont.]

How can I convince my parents to let me go to a Muse concert?
Q. Ok, so Muse is touring later this year and tickets go on sale soon, you would not belive how much I want to go, I've been a fan for about 5 years. The only thing is, I need to convince my parents to let me go. I've never been to a big 'rock' concert before, only classical music concerts (as me & both my parents are classical musicians :|) I'll be 17 when the concert is (most likely). Got any ideas on how I should bring this up with my parents?

A. have you got someone older to go with? if not just invent someone lol. what I would do is look into travel and accommodation for the gig(where is it you hope to go?) and have that all researched then bring the subject up and tell them how long you have been waiting for this. there are 14 year olds on Muselive going to gigs in the UK so you could mention that as they are 14+ gigs and the crowd is usually well behaved(sort of). it's worth pushing for as you will have the time of your life:) I've been saving up since Wembley (best weekend of my life so far) and have got tickets for 3 gigs in the UK-I now have to persuade my parents to look after my pets for 2 nights when I go to London:) If you aren't on Muselive already come and have a look-t [cont.]

A. By starting from the day they are born instilling good in them, knowing right from wrong and how to make good decisions. By being consistent and steadfast in their parenting skills and allowing the goodness of God to help them and guide them. By teaching their children about God and the good there.

A. I know that USAirways flies direct from Charlotte to Orlando. Charlotte is a USAirways hub so they are the dominant carrier in Charlotte. If Air Tran flies out of Charlotte, they may be another option. Not sure if Southwest flies out of Charlotte. You can try them also. All 3 airlines mentioned are extremely safe. 9/11 and terrorism in general is just a way to try to bully us into meeting some demand by those who are committing the acts. Their purpose is to try to scare us and make us live in fear. The best way to fight this is to not change the way you are living and to be more alert, especially if you see unusual activity. I recommend the less you bring with you the better. But CD players, laptops and Nintendos should be allowed. Don't… [cont.]

How can parents encourage kids to learn without being overzealous?
Q. How can parents encourage kids to learn without being overzealous? I've seen so many kids drop out of high school, middle school or just not doing good in High school. What should be a motivation for kids that they'll find rewarding? Going to university should be a reward in itself but for some reason some of today's kids don't seem to realize that. How can parents help?
Asked by I dont like mondays - Thu Jun 9 14:00:19 2011 - Parenting - 2 Answers - Comments

A. First, it needs to be recognized that not all kids learn in today's institutionaliz ed settings that they call public schools. You can't even begin the motivation discussion until solutions have been come up with for that little tidbit. There is also the little difference between how male and females process info. They need different teaching techniques applied. Addressing the parenting for kids 0 to 5 will also have a huge impact but, with everyone already knowing whats best for their child. That will be a bit difficult.
