A. Hi rrrachie, My name s Ron. I m a part of the Windows Outreach Team. I thought I d just throw in my two cents here. Judging by what you said, you might want to first try uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Live Messenger. Try that, then re-try syncing your i Tunes with your Windows Live Messenger. If that doesn t work, then I d try the following: Click on START > Click on control panel > Click on classic view > Click on default programs > Click on set default programs. From there you can select i Tunes from the menu on the left and click the Set this program as default on the right-hand side. This should, in most cases work around any problems with syncing the two. Hope this helps. Cheers, Ron Windows Outreach Team

When one upgrades windows vista to windows 7 does it allow you to keep Windows Mail?
Q. Windows Mail is the email program that comes with Windows Vista. It was the replacement to Outlook Express. I want to know if it is possible to keep windows mail if you are a Vista user , and all of its emails, mail rules and settings if one upgrades Vista to 7.

A. Windows 7 doesn't have a Windows Mail replacement built in. The closest you can get is Windows Live Mail (basically an upgraded version of Winodws Mail), which can be downloaded from www.live.com. Here is how to transfer emails You can't transfer your account settings, but it's easy enough to get it set up again.

What kind of window treatments will work with 3 different sized windows in same area?
Q. I have 3 windows in my livingroom/dinette area (all visible at the same time). Two are slidebys that are 50 inches wide and 3 feet high, the other is a large picture window. The slidebys are at the same height as the picture window, but, of course, are not as low. I can't imagine what type of window treatments will work on all three windows. Please help

A. If you hang all the rods the same height they will appear to be the same. Don't worry about how low, you can always put something in front of them. Good luck!

What can we do about faulty windows causing bay to move?
Q. Structural engineer has confirmed that the movement in our bay window causing a gap between the house and the bay was caused by badly fitted windows. The window company were not happy at first but after coming to see the window and the bay, have admitted that they were badly fitted. They are willing to fit bracing and sort the windows out but this will not fix the fact that the roof has dropped and there is a gap between the house and the bay. Can we ask for compensation and would we have a legal case against them? Thank you both for answering, really appreciate it.

A. as the windows were badly installed in the first place and the fitters did not support the bay properly before fitting your new bay added to that they did not by the sound of your question use bracing supports or poles which are an integral part of the bay window structure . these supports should have been inserted left and right of the front section. they must now jack up the bay window to the correct height. its possible now the height of the windows are going to be to short so the bay will need to be bricked up to the new level of bracing blocks inserted around the top of the window them made up from the inside and outside . that's what they would probably do . in reality they should replace the whole lot but my guess is that wont… [cont.]

Is buying replacement windows for my house from Home Depot a good experience recomended or not?
Q. I want to replace five windows in my Town house and I just got an estimate of $800 per window installed. Is this too much for custom windows direct from local factory. I want a good product but $800@ window I am not sure. Help somebody.

A. "It Depends" is the real answer. The search for the right replacement window is similar to shopping for a house - different factors vary in weight depending on individual tastes. Check this blog for a great synopsis:

My windows 7 is not genuine but is activated. Is it safe to enable windows update?
Q. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate and my windows is activated. Since i have installed Windows 7 i have never enabled Windows Updates as i am unsure that it may deactivate my windows or may hamper working of my non genuine windows. So i want to know if it will be safe to enable windows updates?
Asked by Rash - Sun Jan 23 11:26:53 2011 - Software - 4 Answers - 1 Comments
A. If your PC has a version of Windows 7 that was activated using activators then it is safe to have Windows Update enabled. The only disadvantage is that Windows Update has an update called "Update for Windows 7 (KB971033)" that will search for illegal copies of Windows 7 and deactivate them. Just hide this update and be on the lookout for any other updates that require Windows 7 Genuine Validation.

How do I seal my windows from cold air?
Q. I rent a home and we are not allowed to use plastic on our windows. Some of the windows are old, and leak air really bad. I tried weather strips last year but it didnt really work so well. Any suggestions? Should I use the plastic anyways? The window in my kids room makes a terrible hissing sound from the wind. Also some of the windows dont have storm doors on them. The newer windows are fine but the old ones are terrible they leak where the window shuts and hits the sill. Please help froze our butts off last year, and lost a bunch of heat and money. Thanks in advance. we cant use duct tape or anything like that either. i cannot buy new windows or fix them my landlords nickname is balls which means yeah right she aint fixing a damn thing.

A. The government says you have Tenant rights. Having children makes your case even more important. At this point you shouldn't worry about what your cheapskate landlord thinks. Look at the Web Site below. I think you will find all the info you need. Good Luck!! and take care of the problem before it gets any colder.

A. Hi fornoonex3, Have you tried signing in with another account? Get a friend to try signing in using their username and password. If this works, then there might be something on the server side (Microsoft) of things. If things persist, check out the Live Messenger team page: You can get in touch with the right people through there. Cheers, Ron Windows Outreach Team

How to replace windows on a second floor flat?
Q. Im looking to replace my single glazed windows to double glazed windows in my flat. My flat is second storey looking directly onto the street. Can someone please advise what would be the best way / cheapest ways for a joiner / window fitter to replace these windows? Will i need to erect scaffolding, hire a cherry picker or will the fitter have an alternative method for fitting these windows? Thanks in advance.
Asked by - Tue May 25 10:51:02 2010 - Maintenance & Repairs - 2 Answers - Comments
A. The chances are that you arn't the first person that a joiner or window fitter has had to replace windows on the 2nd floor for. I think it is possible to install them from either side - inside or out if you know what you are doing so a cherry picker might not be needed. I'd get a quote for the windows with fitting and see what they say - I would go for fitting from the inside though

How can i remove windows xp from my laptop and reinstall windows Me -the laptops original software?
Q. I have recently bought a used laptop that is old. The person I had bought it from had installed windows xp on it, even though it originally came with windows Me. I want to remove the windows xp because it runs slows on the laptop because it takes up more memory than the windows Me would. Also I want to remove windows xp because it is an illegal copy. So when I tried to run updates on it, windows would not install updates because the windows xp is not genuine.
Asked by bigro90 - Wed Jan 28 23:53:19 2009 - Laptops & Notebooks - 5 Answers - 2 Comments
A. I would suggest a full system restore replacing the Windows XP with the correct version of Windows ME. As explained from other members here, insert the system recovery disks if you have these and follow the instructions. This will completely remove all existing Windows XP profiles and will restore your laptop back to factory state after a full system restore. It is also very likely that your laptop is not capable of working with Windows XP as a result of insufficient system resources on your laptop which is one reason why your laptop is not preforming at its optimum proficiency.

How do I fix my power windows on my 1997 Ford Explorer?
Q. All four windows on my '97 explorer quit working. I've checked all fuses that are listed in a repair manual and they all have power going to them. I'm wondering if the window motor has gone out or if I need to replace the master switch which controls all windows. Q. I would like to find a way to seal the space between the old storm window and the window to keep all that dirt out of there. I havent taken the storm windows off this year to clean and its filthy under there. Any suggestions to keep it a little cleaner between the storm window and the window?

A. Maybe the windows need new caulking to prevent the dust and dirt from entering the space between the two windows. A new seal of caulking might help. Maybe even some fresh paint on the wood around the windows might make a tighter seal.

Q. I just bought a very old city colonial with new replacement windows. However, they look very boxy and uninteresting. There aren't any grooves in the window to insert decorative lines. Do you have any other suggestions on putting lines on new windows to give it a colonial feel? Thanks so much!

A. I'm not sure where you buy it now but they make a self-adhesive tape which imitates the look of leaded glass. I'd call some local glass shops. If they don't have it, they can probably order it.

What's the difference between windows starter and windows home premium?
Q. I was thinking of getting a netbook but I noticed most of them come with windows starter. I've hear rumor the windows starter is like a trial and you can't change wallpapers and you have to buy windows home premium. If I already have a windows desktop pc with home premium on it can I somehow burn windows 7 onto disk and install it onto the netbook. The reason I ask is because my windows 7 desktop never came with a windows 7 disk. I don't want to pay extra for windows 7 when I already have it on my desktop pc.
